FAQ & Tips

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the timer stay in sync when I switch screens?

Yes! The app uses a single shared timer across every screen. Whether you're on the live scoring page, the performance tracker, or the stats view, the timer always shows the same value. No drift, no duplicates.

What if I accidentally record a goal?

Tap the UNDO button (the minus icon above that team's goal cards) on the live scoring screen. It removes the most recent goal for that team.

Do I need to save my match manually?

No. Matches are saved automatically the moment you start a game, and kept up to date as you score. Reopen any game later from Load Match or Game History.

Can I track a match without setting up teams first?

Absolutely. You can use the default "Us" and "Them" team names and skip the roster setup entirely. You'll still get full scoring, event tracking, and stats — just without named players in the breakdowns.

Where is my data stored?

All data is stored locally on your device using secure storage. Nothing is sent to a server unless you explicitly share or export a match.

Can I use this on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. Netball Tracker is a cross-platform app that works on iOS, Android, and even in a web browser.

What are "plays"?

A play is a passage of action that starts from a centre pass. Each time there's a new centre pass, a new play begins. Goals, misses, intercepts, and other events are all recorded within the current play. This structure lets the app show you stats broken down by centre pass and quarter.

How does the centre pass work, and can I switch it?

The team holding the centre pass is shown with a coloured ring around its score and a CENTRE PASS label on the live screen. It alternates automatically after every goal. If play turns over, simply tap the other team's score to give them the centre. Scoring against the run of centre shows a TURNOVER flash, and these are also marked on the scoresheet.

How is the performance score calculated?

Each action type has a point value. Positive actions (goals, intercepts, assists, passes) add points; negative actions (concedes, fouls, misses) subtract points. The total is the player's performance score for that match. You can customise point values in the Tracking Configuration.

Can I change the quarter length or number of quarters mid-game?

Yes. Open Settings › Game to reopen the configuration dialog, adjust the quarter length and number of quarters, then tap Apply. The timer updates immediately. (Note: you can only keep or increase quarters past ones you've already played.)

Handy Tips

Use rosters for best results. Setting up player names for each position means the app can automatically attribute goals and show per-player stats without extra taps during the game.
Share after every game. Get in the habit of sharing the JSON export after each match. That way you always have a backup, and coaches can review stats at home.
Try dark mode for outdoor games. If you're scoring in bright sunlight, dark mode can actually be easier to read on some screens. Give it a try!
Custom tracking for your style. Every team tracks different things. Add custom items like "Tip", "Deflection", or "Held Ball" to match exactly what your coach wants to see.
